Kakanin, or sticky rice cake, is a favorite delicacy that we Filipinos love to snack on and enjoy during special occasions. More so, it has become a tradition for some families to indulge in it during Holy Week.
We were in my hometown this past Holy Week for our one-month vacation so I made sure to buy and enjoy kakanin because this is something that is not available here in the U.S.
My aunt knew exactly where to buy the best kakanin in the city. So she ordered it online and together with my sister, we picked it up a few days after.
We bought the biggest box and in it included assorted kakanin.
There were seven different kinds of kakanin in this box which is good for 25 persons.
Ube halaya – purple one on top.
Cassava cake – middle left.
Kutsinta – brown one in middle.
Sapin-sapin – round purple with white in middle.
Suman – yellow in top right with its latik (coconut caramel sauce) dip in container on top of it.
Palitaw – white one in bottom right.
Biko – brown one in bottom left.
Each of these kakanin have different ingredients. However, they are all made with glutinous rice and milk.
They are all delicious, but my favorite has always been palitaw. Growing up, it would always be my first choice when there’s an array of kakanin in front of me.
Have you had kakanin before? It sure is delightful to indulge in so grab yourself some if you ever come across some.
Happy Foodie Friday, friends!
