In my previous post about our trip to Taal Volcano, I mentioned about having lunch in a restaurant located on a mountain overlooking the volcano and the lake it’s in. The name of the restaurant is RSM Lutong Bahay, and it is located in Tagaytay City which is located in the province of Cavite, Philippines. Lutong bahay literary means homecooked in English and, I must say, the food that they served really reminds me of home-cooked meals.
Lewis’ wife Cora ordered a lot of dishes, but my son only got to take a few photos. Nonetheless, all the foods were delicious Filipino foods and we couldn’t thank them enough for the treat.
We don’t have this in the U.S. so I’m happy to have this again. This is pork BBQ – a totally different kind of BBQ from what the U.S. BBQ is. And it came with a little bit of Atchara or fermented pickled green papaya on the side.
We also had calamares or calamari. Glad she ordered this dish because this is my son’s most favorite appetizer of all time.
We also had scallops. Look how good those looked!
And my dear husband got a shot of his much desired popular Filipino rum named Tanduay. He’s been wanting to have a shot of it since he got to the Philippines but he didn’t get a chance while we were in my hometown. This restaurant has a bar and it’s located right next to where we were sitting so he didn’t pass the opportunity and ordered a shot. Can you tell on this picture how happy he was with that glass of rum? 🙂
It was a Sunday and we got to the restaurant right around noon time. It was a big restaurant with a second floor but it was packed. We got lucky they have an available table for us (all 9 of us) because the first restaurant that we stopped at didn’t.
What a delicious lunch in Tagaytay it was with views of the volcano and the lake. Take me back!

while we are vegetarians, one thing that I have seen is that there is lots of veg options in Filipino food (and lots of similarities to many Indian dishes as well.. for instance, the word for pickle in Hindi is achar, like you mentioned Atchara for the fermented papaya)
