My hometown of GenSan (short for General Santos) is known as the Tuna Capital of the Philippines. Tuna fish that are fresh from the ocean are harvested daily and you can visit the fish port complex if you want the experience of seeing them up close and personal.
There are many tuna dishes that we know and love and these tuna nuggets are among them. But I haven’t had them in a while. I just remember preparing them again after I came across a recipe video on TikTok.
Fresh fish is always better than canned, but it is impossible to get fresh tuna here in our part of the world, so I used canned tuna as per the recipe I followed. For me, it is not bad to use canned from time to time. But I must admit, I am not a big fan of canned meat or vegetables.
This dish is so easy to prepare. All you have to do is mix all the ingredients and then turn them into nuggets or whatever shape you want to. The shape doesn’t have to be perfect.
Then you deep fry them and that’s it. You have tuna nuggets for you to devour.
I am no longer a big fan of deep-frying since I now have an air fryer, but I don’t see any problem doing it every now and then. Moderation in anything is key, right?
These tuna nuggets are really delicious. As usual, we paired them with steamed jasmine rice. You can choose to dip them or not. My son has a favorite dip as well as my husband. I chose to just eat them as is.
A 12 ounce can of tuna can make a bunch of nuggets and we couldn’t eat them all so we had leftovers which I had for lunch the following day.
Have you had tuna nuggets before? Here’s the link to the video in case you want to make them yourself.
Happy Foodie Friday, friends!
