Egg Roll is one of my must-haves to order at our favorite Chinese restaurant. And I would always choose the vegetable egg roll. They also serve pork and shrimp.
Our Filipino version of egg roll is called Lumpia and there are different varieties of it, too. But my favorite is the Lumpiang Shanghai. The last time I’ve had it was during our recent trip to my home country in March of this year. As for having that here in the United States, I’d have trouble finding the necessary ingredients, though I do have a Filipino shopping site.
The one thing I find tedious about preparing egg roll is the wrapping of the ingredients that you have mixed. So it was such a delight when I came across this egg roll in a bowl recipe on TikTok. There’s no need for wrapping which makes it easier.
I used the bag of tri-color coleslaw for this dish so I didn’t have to chop the cabbage. Doing that saves me time and energy, for sure.
I also added a pack of ramen because I was craving ramen. The recipe didn’t call for it, though. I just thought I’d add it and it turned out good. I just used the noodles and threw away the seasoning packets.
The recipe called for ground turkey, but my husband and son would prefer beef so, I used ground beef instead. I think you can also use either ground pork or ground chicken. It is totally up to you on what you would prefer.
We really enjoyed this egg roll in a bowl. I have prepared this a few times already, actually. How about you? Have you had egg roll in a bowl before?
Here’s the link to the video if you want to give it a try yourself.
Happy Foodie Friday, friends!

What a great idea for a dish! And I love the name. Sounds delicious and it is a neat concept for a ‘deconstructed’ egg roll.

I am with you on making actual egg rolls. Rolling them into the dough or whatever they use would be hard and tedious. I’ll have to give this a try one night for dinner.

That’s such a catchy dish name, definitely sounds better than “deconstructed egg rolls”! Although I’d still like to have the crunch of the wanton or lumpia wrapper sprinkled in!
