My son loves food like me. Around Christmas, he decided to browse one of our favorite food delivery apps and came across the dish, Lechon Asado.
If you don’t know yet, Lechon or Roasted Pig is like the Filipino version of turkey. It is always the queen of the table during special occasions like birthdays, weddings and even at Christmas.
The Lechon Asado is served by a restaurant named Guajiro and they serve Cuban comfort food. The restaurant is actually located nearby, but we’ve never heard of it before. So imagine our delight when we learned about the dish.
Lechon Asado Roast Pork with Fried Sweet Plantains & Rice
The entrée, Lechon Asado Roast Pork came with two sides, rice and black beans. My son just ordered additional sides which were the fried sweet plantains and french fries.
I love fried sweet plantains. Growing up, we would always have them for our afternoon snack. Funny thing about it, I was just talking to my sister about fried sweet plantains a few days before this. I missed having them when we were there in early spring for our 30-day vacation and that’s because there was so much food to eat that I forgot what else to eat while we were there. Not having all the Filipino food that you would want to eat here in the U.S., I always want to indulge in all of them while we are in the Philippines.
Black Beans
Here are the black beans that came with the entrée.
French Fries
I am not sure if French fries are one of the Cuban comfort foods but it is on their menu. Or maybe they just added it because they’re in America. Regardless of the reason, my son couldn’t be any happier because French fries are one of his favorite sides.
We really enjoyed the Lechon Asado. It was so good! My mouth’s watering just thinking about it and I’m now contemplating about having it for dinner again today.
How about you? Do you enjoy Cuban comfort food? Have you had these dishes before?
Happy Foodie Friday, friends!
