Previously, I shared about our road trip to South Carolina and, as promised, I’m going to share the goodies that we ate and filled our tummies with in those four days. So, here you go with my story of chowing down in Columbia.
Thing is, I didn’t get to take photos of all of the chowing down that we did. Part of it was, I forgot because I was so ready to gobble and part of it was because I was so engrossed with the conversations that we all had plus the conversations that we had with the strangers while at the restaurant. Anyhoo, here are a few of the foods that we enjoyed.
You Had Me at Buffet
We arrived in Columbia at around 3 o’clock in the afternoon that Tuesday, checked in and then rested a little bit. Columbia is roughly a 2-hour and 40-minute drive from where we live. We left after noon and stopped for lunch somewhere in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
We decided to grab dinner at around 5 o’clock. Our hotel is located at a busy street and there were a lot of restaurants nearby. My husband decided that we go to Shoney’s which was located across the street.
If I remember it right, the last time we dined in at Shoney’s was in 2012 and it was somewhere in Virginia when we were on our way home from Baltimore, Maryland to attend my friend son’s Christening. My husband loves Shoney’s so, off we went.
My husband’s plate. He ordered steak, baked potato and onion rings.
And he had sweet tea.
I had orange juice.
They have a buffet, but it did not appeal to me, and what I wanted to have was something breakfast-y. So, I had breakfast for dinner. There were my sunny-side-up eggs and potatoes.
Plus my toast and bacon.
Good Eats in Between
We also enjoyed some chicken, biscuits and fries while enjoying the view of the lake.
There was also a seafood restaurant right in front of the hotel where we grabbed our lunch one day.
Hibachi It Is
And for our last night there, we went to this Hibachi restaurant nearby.
My husband had this Hibachi scallop plate.
Then I had the Hibachi tofu.
My son had this steak bowl.
My son also ordered this shrimp tempura. We all love this appetizer.
There you go…our chowing down in Columbia story. 🙂
Happy Foodie Friday, friends!

This all sounds so yummy! A buffet sounds like a great idea, as I often have a hard time deciding what I want.

I have been to Shoneys once in Jacksonville NC when my kids were little. I was having work done on my van and shoneys was next door. I don’t really remember the food though. We don’t have one around here.
I’ll have to find a good habachi food in a long time. It’s so good. Plus the show is always fun.
