Just like what he did last year, he took us on another fun road trip taking the backroads of the mountains of North Carolina. I’m talking about my husband’s best friend, Lewis. He is back in town, and he’d actually already treated us to dinner at our favorite seafood restaurant here in the city a couple of weeks ago which I haven’t shared yet.
The last time he was here, he took us exploring the roads, including treacherous mountain dirt roads of Madison County that ended up at the summit of Max Patch. This time around, we explored a different county and saw things that we had never seen.
Come along and take a ride with us.
Yancey County
We’ve been to Mount Mitchell (the highest peak east of the Mississippi River) before which is located in Yancey County, but it was mine and the hubs’ first time to drive through these roads.
We saw streams, creeks and rivers.
We also drove up to the highest part of the mountain on a dirt road.
And drove through many townships as well. It was in the township of Pensacola where we saw many fish ponds. And it looked like they were building more. Not sure what fishes they grow there but we did see one that says Carp.
We turned left at this intersection and drove through the town of Burnsville. It is the county seat of Yancey County.
Farm Market
And then it was time to eat because it was already noon time. Lewis took and treated us to a Mexican restaurant in the town of Mars Hill in Madison County which is located right next to Yancey County. And I just realized that aside from seafood, we also all love Mexican food because we had Mexican food last year after the road trip as well as a couple of years ago when his wife was here with him.
This market is located right next door to the restaurant. We checked it out after we filled our hungry tummies.
Such beautiful flowers.
Those peaches look so good. And those tomatoes were huge!
Like the thoughtful person that he always is, Lewis bought this mango salsa for me. Mango is hugely grown in my home county, the Philippines, but I’ve never had mango salsa before. And guess what? It is delish!
What a fun road trip! And what delicious Mexican food we had for lunch! More about the food soon.
How about you? Have you gone on a road trip this summer yet?
