After seeing the Lincoln Memorial, our next stop supposedly was the Washington Monument. But we came across this site after walking and enjoying the view of the reflecting pool. This is the World War II Memorial and I honestly didn’t know it is located between the Lincoln and Washington Memorials. Such a nice surprise!

The World War II Memorial honors the service of 16 million members of the Armed Forces of the United States of America. It opened in the spring of 2004.
This is an entrance to the south side of the memorial but there were two of these. The north side says Atlantic and it was where we entered actually. But coming from the Pacific, I guess you know why I chose this photo.

The architecture that is made of stone is just beautiful. The Rainbow Pool and fountains are such great addition as well – so relaxing that I could sit there all day. As you can see, there were a lot of people that Saturday afternoon.

Knowing this is a war memorial, I figured I’d see my home country’s name in one of the columns and there it is. There are two wreaths that decorate each column – one in the form of wheat and the other one in oak.

This was the view from the bench where we were sitting after checking the entirety of the World War II Memorial. We sat here for minutes just soaking in all the view and relishing the fascinating experience we just had.
This is one of the most memorable memorials or historic spots I’ve ever been to. It went years ago, and it still stays with me.
This sounds like a good memorial to visit. I have not been to Washington DC and would love to see the different sights there. My son loves history and these kinds of places.
that’s a thoughtful reflection on the memorial. feels more real when you stand in a place that holds so much meaning.
I wonder why this memorial was only built in 2004? Was there anything built before it?
I want to see this memorial. This is one of the biggest memorials I have seen.
It looks like such a fabulous place to sit and relax and just take everything in. I’ve never visited the US so I enjoy seeing people’s photos.
It’s been fantastic seeing all of these historical sites from your blog! Thank you for sharing the World War II memorial.
This is a beautiful memorial. It is a fitting tribute for the people that lost their lives.
Wow, the number of people at the World War I I Memorial really does bring home the consequences of war. The architecture is really impressive and the rainbow pool and fountains a great feature.
Everyone should visit this memorial if they haven’t. It’s a good place to get kids interested in history as well.
A lovely site to visit. I would be happy to spend some time here, to appreciate the monuments.
I absolutely loved seeing this momument when we visited. But we were there after dark which was beautiful as it was all lit up, but I’d have liked to see it during the day so I really appreciate all the photos x
It is important to teach our children about the sacrifices made during that time, and a great way to honor those who served.
This world memorial is worth a visit. You must be feeling so overwhelmed visiting here.
I grew up in Northern VA and visited DC a lot. I love it there and honestly have never seen this beautiful monument for myself! I was just saying I want to do a tour of the White House and will make suer to check this out when I do!
It’s a unique place and architecture and the energy it possesses. Have not been there. Your pictures tell a beautiful story. Thank you.
