The holidays are upon us and I couldn’t be more joyful because this is definitely my favorite time of the year. I love everything about this time of year, from the festive decor everywhere to the sound of Christmas music, time with family and even the hustle and bustle of holiday shopping whether grocery shopping or shopping for gifts to give to my loved ones. But amidst all these, I still know how to stay calm and sane, if I may say. LOL. So here are the ways on how I stay calm in the busiest time of the year.
1) Stick With Your Daily Routine
If we need to go somewhere to go shopping, I don’t let it ruin the daily schedule that we already have. So I always make sure to do it on a day where we have some free time for it.
2) Phone a Friend
I have a friend who always calls me almost everyday during her free time at work, and it’s always fun talking to her just almost about everything. As much as I enjoy receiving her call, I also enjoy calling her whenever I can.
3) Get Out of the House
With all the household chores and doing all the tasks that I need to do online on a daily basis, it’s always a breath of fresh air (literally) when you get out of the house and enjoy the outdoors. For me, it doesn’t have to really have to be a whole day of being outside. Even window shopping for a couple of hours is already fine with me.
4) Make Sleep a Priority
It’s bedtime at 9 o’clock for me. Sometimes it’s 10 o’clock during the weekends when there’s a great movie to watch with the family. And I always have to have a pillow to hug.
5) Listen to Music
I listen to music every single day…whether I’m doing household chores or fulfilling my online tasks. It’s the 80s that I listen to every time, but during the holidays, it’s Christmas music, of course.
6) Laughter
As they say, laughter is the best medicine. So take time to laugh. Hubby has this favorite TV shows from the 70s and 80s that he records on our DVR that are really funny. I have never seen those shows before and I never thought I would actually enjoy watching them oldie shows. 🙂
7) Stay Grateful
Staying positive is always a good thing. I always focus on the positive and stay out of the negative. And I’m always thankful for everything…even the simplest and tiniest things. Like they say, it’s the little things, right?
How about you? How do you stay calm during the holidays?

Sticking to your routine is key. With extra stress and rich foods, keeping to your normal exercise regimen and bedtime can help you feel less out of control.

These are all really important things to do! Our schedule has already picked up a ton and it is getting hard to stay calm. I like the idea of being grateful, focusing on how lucky I am to be busy with friends and family this time of year.

I needed a reminder like this. I have been so stressed since our home renovations started in July and still no kitchen or master bath. Yesterday was a tipping point for me. I need to find some ways to stay calm!

I am not trying to pack all these “holiday” expectations in this year. I am just trying to spend time as a family.

Thanks, Shannon! Hope you have a happy holiday season as well.
The holidays can definitely be a stressful time of year, but these are some great ideas! I will definitely be trying out some of these this holiday season!
I need to keep all of these in mind! I get so stressed out every year, that I end up looking back once it is all over and wishing I had enjoyed the season more. Making sleep a priority and sticking to a schedule are hard for me, but I know they will be life changers if I can accomplish those two!
