Time surely does fly when you’re having fun because tomorrow, November 23, marks mine and my son’s 9th year anniversary of our arrival in the U.S. of A., which will make next week our 10th anniversary of celebrating Thanksgiving, a holiday not observed in the Philippines.
It may sound cliche’ but it all seems like yesterday when we set foot on U.S. soil for the first time. And I still remember every minute of that night when we touched down in Asheville and felt the chilly autumn air as we came out of the airport. Actually, coming from a tropical country, it felt so cold to me, but for the Hubs, it was only chilly.
This was taken at Tokyo airport during our layover while waiting for our trip to Atlanta 9 years ago. Seeing my son so young like this always puts a smile on my face. He was only seven on this picture. You can see more pictures about that trip on this blog post written by the Hubs.
And there I was. This photo was also taken at Tokyo airport. We had a five hour layover so we had time to explore the airport and had fun taking snapshots. My son was the one who took this picture because I think the Hubs was busy having his cigarette break at the smoking area.
And here’s our recent picture taken a little before 9 years after. This picture was taken last week before we watched a movie. My son has grown and it’s hard to believe he’s a teen already. Oh, and don’t be fooled by those glasses he’s wearing. Those aren’t prescription eyeglasses. Those are blue light blocking glasses. He just loves wearing them wherever he goes.
The past nine years have been great years. Of course there was a difficult time like when the Hubs had a heart attack almost four years ago. The rest has been great and I couldn’t be more thankful and grateful for it, especially since just a little over two-months ago we have now become American citizens.
So here’s to more wonderful years to my son and I here in the U.S. and praying more blessings to come for our little family.

Congratulations on becoming US citizens! Those of us who were born and raised here sometimes take our liberties for granted. I’m glad there are immigrants like you to remind us that we need to be very thankful for what we have.
