As you already know, if you’ve been here on the blog in the past couple of days, we celebrated our 9th year wedding anniversary. My husband shared about that special day on Wednesday. But he didn’t share about our lunch date because when it comes to food, I’m the one in-charge. 🙂
A restaurant called Green Sage Cafe has a branch downtown. We’ve passed by it many times before in downtown, but never got to try it. Then recently, they opened a branch near us. So we thought of sampling it out for our anniversary.
I didn’t know that they serve healthy, organic and sustainable food until I checked their menu which was definitely a delight. They offer a lot of different items and have choices for vegans. I’m not vegan, but I do enjoy vegan dishes.
Drip Coffee
This was hubby’s cup of coffee. It is made from organic and sustainably-sourced beans. I had a few sips. Just a few because I ordered me a smoothie.
Love Shack
Here’s my smoothie with a cute name. It has banana, chocolate sauce, almond butter, maca, and almond milk. I had no idea what maca was, but I ordered the smoothie anyway and it was delicious not to mention, so creamy and so rich.
I googled “maca” when I got home and here’s what I got:
Maca is a Peruvian plant grown in the Andes mountains. It is a cruciferous vegetable, meaning that it is related to broccoli, cabbage, and kale. Maca is a common ingredient in Peruvian cooking that gives dishes an earthy flavor. Maca root plant can be ground up into a powder and added to meals or smoothies.
Avocado BLT
Here’s hubby’s plate. He’s not really a big fan of avocado like me so, I was surprised when he chose this. It has pork bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado and chimmimayo on multigrain bread. It was served with coleslaw. He said it was good.
Forbidden City Bowl
My plate. Isn’t that an interesting name? I don’t know why it’s called forbidden city bowl, but I sure enjoyed it. It was delish! It has tamari tofu, seared broccoli, roasted sweet potatoes, brown rice, kimchi, red cabbage, miso ginger sauce and sesame seeds.
I like the ambiance of that restaurant too because they have big windows and you can see the busy street while enjoying your food if you’re seated at a booth like what we did.
After we finished eating, Hubby asked me if I want a pie from my favorite pie bakery. But the smoothie filled me up leaving no room for a piece of pie. So the pie just have to wait for next time. 🙂
And today, I just told the Hubs hat we need to go back soon and try a different dish. He said, “Sure!” 🙂
Happy Foodie Friday, friends!

Everything sounds so delicious! Thanks for explaining maca as well, I have not been educated on that one, although I have heard of it. And congrats again!
Thank you, Mitchell!
Happy Anniversary! I just love avocado BLTs! They make something like that at Panera Bread so I get it often. And I love pie!
Always nice to have delicious food that’s healthy for your anniversary. Very cool of you guys to be able to enjoy a delicious meal together.
Happy (belated) anniversary! It sounds like you had a very nice lunch. I’d love to try the Forbidden City Bowl, it looks really good!
Yum, I really want to try the avocado sandwich. Avocados are my favorite and I buy them but seem to forget to eat them later. Doh! I hope you guys had a wonderful anniversary.
I remember reading your husband’s post. I even checked out the post he wrote hours before you two tied the knot. It sure looks like you guys had fabulous 9th-anniversary food. I’m a foodie too!
These all look delicious! I would love to taste that smoothie. I love the name of your food!
The Forbidden city Bowl looks fantastic. I’ve been eating like this lately, trying to get protein and crunchy vegetables.
Happy Anniversary! My daughter would love the for forbidden city bowl. Tofu is one of her favorite things to eat.
That smoothie sounds delicious. I have never had an avacado BLT but it looks so good I will definitely add it to my meal plan for next week. I am sure it will be a hit in my house.
