Have been a bit remiss in doing my blogging duties as of late due to work schedule. But, thankfully, Lynndee hasn’t fired me yet…(“,) So here’s an update on the current going-ons in my life.
Counting Down to the Billions!
I want to share the latest thing I’ve been doing the past couple of years. Though not my idea, my bestest friend-ever started doing this and shared the idea with me. I was totally fascinated by the idea of not counting birthdays by the number of years but by the number of seconds lived. Thing is, the number changes every second so you certainly can’t spit the number out when asked how old you are.
Nonetheless, at 3:30 PM two Tuesdays ago, I celebrated my birthday of 2,145,916,800 seconds. Yepper, that’s as in two billion. And as it was, I got an extra 86,400 seconds last year seeing that it was a leap year. My friend and I have both set a goal of hopefully making it to the 3 billion mark, as if we have control of that. But…why not aim high?
I’ve yet to do the math to figure out how many more years it will take to reach that goal, and I don’t know that I’ll even bother. All I know is that having already died once, every second truly does count so I’ll do my best to make use of every single one of them.
Reading and Watching
I’ve recently reintroduced myself to the masterful works of Ray Bradbury, one of my all-time favorite authors. Though having copies in my personal collection, it had been years since I had read them. However, a while back I ran across an old TV series from the 80s that I had once viewed, The Ray Bradbury Theater. The series consisted of 65 episodes based upon stories Bradbury had written.
So I set up my DVR to record the entire series, and in doing so, my memory of long-ago words I’d gobbled up came rushing back, leading me to go dig out those old friends, including The Illustrated Man and The Martian Chronicles.
It was especially fitting to reread The Martian Chronicles considering that the Perseverance Rover recently landed on Mars to begin a search for actual life on the red planet. But who knows, maybe the final story in The Martian Chronicles, “The Million-Year Picnic”, will come to be when Earth emigres become Martians. You’ll just have to read the story to understand that.
Looking Forward to…
Spring! This ol’ boy is sick and tired of cold weather and I’m certainly welcoming the coming of the season of the sun. I’m ready to get out and do yard work and then do the most important of all outside work in the grass, play a round of golf.
So, later, y’all…meet you on the tee!

I am looking forward to spring too! I even tried to grow some plants indoors to start before being able to move them outside but it had been so gray they got no light and died 🙁 (I don’t have indoor lamps for them.)
