Charleston, a port city in South Carolina, is where we went recently to celebrate my birthday. It was mine and my son’s first time to visit this beautiful city and it reminded me of my hometown because it’s also located by a bay.
We were there for four days and it sure wasn’t enough to see all the goodness that Charleston has to offer, but we did have a great time seeing and doing things that we truly enjoy and find fascinating.
Below were the things that we did and I recommend that you do, too, if you ever visit Charleston.
Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge
This bridge is a cable-stayed bridge over the Cooper River which connects Charleston to Mount Pleasant. You have to drive on this bridge because it is just so gorgeous. Being on this bridge is an absolute wonderful feeling.
Rainbow Row
We drove through Downtown Charleston because I really wanted to see Rainbow Row. It is the name for a series of thirteen colorful historic houses on East Bay Street. What a charming part of downtown!
Boone Hall Plantation & Gardens
Located at Mouth Pleasant, more or less than 10 miles and across the bay from Charleston, this plantation is a sight to behold. The oak tree lined road with Spanish moss dangling all over them was amazing.
The mansion was used as Rachel McAdams’ summer home in the movie “The Notebook.” We love the movie so it was such a delight to see it up close.
The plantation also has so much history in it. We love visiting historical places and we did learn so much from this place.
Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum
Also located in Mouth Pleasant, this museum also has so much history in it and that’s why we made it a point to explore it.
My son and I had never seen a carrier before much less be on one. It was exciting to be on that huge piece of metal floating in the bay, without a doubt. I also love the movie “Top Gun” so it really gave me all the feels.
Shem Creek
We watched the show “Outer Banks” on Netflix and they filmed some of the scenes here. What a nice place with great views. This place was also located in Mount Pleasant, and we had our last dinner here before we headed home the following day. We even saw dolphins while having dinner. That was exciting, for sure!
I’ll be sharing more about each of these places with more pictures soon. There is just so much to tell and I feel like they all won’t fit in just one post. So watch out for them. 🙂
Have you ever been to Charleston?
