It’s Friday once again and it’s time for another food post. I’m still thinking of that funnel cake that I shared last week. Can’t wait for another festival happening around town.
Anyway, It was around this time last year when the hubs and I got the chance to have a lunch date. His factory had an inventory day so he didn’t have work and it was a school day so the little one was in school. We grabbed the chance of going out to eat since the two of us seldom go on dates.
We went to this American restaurant called Magnolia Ray that was walking distance from where we live. We didn’t walk though. 🙂 The restaurant was where he celebrated his birthday that year and we totally enjoyed the food. It was superb! The owner of the restaurant was also the chef and he actually went to our table and introduced himself to us on hubby’s birthday. What a nice gesture.
I thought of talking about that lunch date today because the restaurant has closed. That saddened both me and the hubs because we were definitely planning to go back. There was no question of the restaurant’s tasty choice of food on the menu. It was beyond delicious. We actually thought and hoped that they would just change location and continue, but I checked online and found nothing.
These were the dishes we had that day.
This totally delighted the hubs. He was lost for words actually on describing how delicious this appetizer was, but said it was the best potato chowder that he had ever had.
I opted for this unique burger. I love mushrooms so as soon as I saw it, my mind and palate was sure it was what I wanted. Just like the hubs, I was lost for words too on how delicious this burger was. That was the first time that I had mushrooms on my burger and it was divine! How I wish I knew what they seasoned that burger with so I could recreate it here at home.
I do wonder where they are now. Really I’m wondering. I will continue my search for that restaurant and maybe one day, I’ll get me an answer.

That burger looks amazing. Oh, and what is funnel cake – do you mean fried dough? Is that what you guys call it in the south?
Lynndee says
I didn’t know you call it differently there until I asked the hubs. Yup, that’s exactly it. 🙂

That burger might have been my choice too! I can’t remember the last time I went to a restaurant that had burgers with those toppings. Delicious!

That food looks amazing. That is very sad that they closed. I hate when great restaurants have to close. It is so hard finding a good place you enjoy eating.

The burger looks delicious. It’s sad when a restaurant you love closes down. We love sweet potato chips and I make that often.
Tammy @ creativekkids says
It does look like a terrific restaurant! Too bad it closed down. I hope you find that it opened somewhere close to you.
Jeanine says
I love burgers, but I don’t try many of them. I’m super picky so I’m not sure I would have chosen this one, but boy oh boy the food looks great!

The food in those pictures look so delicious! It’s always sad when a favorite restaurant closes down so it’s a good idea to try recreating the food at home.

Because we homeschool our son, we hardly ever get to go on a date! THis looks like a great spot for a lunch date.

That is a beautiful and unique name for a restaurant, especially since I love magnolias! The food that you featured also looks good.

I always find it sad when my favorite restaurants up and close. The food looks so good and I hope that you find something similar in the future.

It was a great birthday gift for your husband to be introduced with the chef. The food presentation looked great and the greens were vibrant.

That burger would make my daughter happy. This is just the kind of thing she relishes in eating. 🙂

Awe…it’s such a disappointment when an eatery or café shuts down that you really like. That happened to me recently – I loved this lil’ Ukrainian café near my house. They had the best coffee and a selection of desserts that changed daily. Then, one day, I went to get some pastries and a mocha latte, and they were closed. A Basil Blue Cheese Dressing sounds tasty.
Kori Tomelden says
That burger sounds absolutely divine. And the soup looks really good, too.

I am so hungry seeing your burger and fries and I just ate! What a great restaurant and review! This would be a place I would like to experience! And it seems like a great place that is family friendly!
