After sharing with you what I learned and discovered in flower gardening and showing you photos of my spring blooming flowers in my post Flower Gardening: I Didn’t Know I Had a Green Thumb, I thought of sharing one of my summer blooming perennials today – the hosta.
I have two hostas at the back of the house, but surprisingly, the second one didn’t bloom this year. I’ve had these flowers since 2012 and they both bloomed the two previous years. I do wonder if the other one is having a disease or something. I checked and although it didn’t grow as big as last year, I wasn’t seeing any disease on the leaves or anywhere. Or maybe there is something that I am not seeing?
Anyway, I’m still happy that one of them bloomed. I took these photos a couple of weeks ago. The hosta is almost done blooming for the season so before it totally disappeared, here are some photos of my beautiful hosta.
We have a lot of trees around the house. There’s like ten trees to be precise – nine maple and one cherry, in the backyard and three maple in the front. And since hosta is a shade-tolerant plant, it was perfect for my flower garden at the back of the house where it is so shady.
There are different varieties and species of hostas, but this is the one that I like best because of its color. I just love the purple color and I love how those flowers come in clusters which make them unique for me.
Hosta is native to northeast Asia, but I hadn’t seen nor heard of it until I got here in the U.S. They are hardy from zones three to nine here in the U.S. Gladly we are in zone seven. I would not have the chance to grow this beautiful flower if we didn’t belong to any of those zones.
Seeing my flowers bloom delight me. Flowers definitely make me happy. 🙂
We have a lot of shade in our yard, so I don’t have many flowers. I Love your Hostas. They are very pretty.
I have a few of those! I am not at all a gardener, but I think hostas are pretty easy to grow! I love the purple flowers they produce too.

I absolutely adore hostas. I have them wherever there’s a bit of shade. They’re just beautiful.

I love Hostas too and we have so many areas they grow well in that it is nice to find a great plant that decorates that area so beautifully.
Hostas are some of the most beautiful plants. I love their leaves, and their flowers are so colorful.

This is the first time I have known about a flower called Hosta. Are they like orchids? The flowers are beautiful! I assume they smell lovely too!

No, they are not like orchids. They are perennials. And the flowers don’t have smell at all. 🙂
I don’t have a green thumb what so ever. Your flowers are beautiful, we visited the Botanical Gardens and they had some beautiful flowers as well.

I definitely do NOT have a green thumb but I have about six giant hostas that thrive all summer long. It is wonderful to find such a great plant that I don’t have to do anything for.

I did not inherit the green thumb gene! I am always in awe of anyone who can grow flowers as I seem to have the most difficult time keeping them alive! Perhaps I tend to underwater then over compensate by over watering! I think global warming and the drastic change in weather also has a lot to do with it!

I love hostas because it makes for a great border. I have a lot in my garden, the ones I planted outside is being eaten by deer.
Those are such gorgeous flowers! I live in a condo so I only have a small balcony to work with for gardening – next year I plan on dong some planting for sure. 🙂
Hosta are pretty common in NC. As a matter of fact, we have several of them growing along our walkway here at home. What I love about them is that they are so hardy. You can cut them in half, spread the cut part to another area, and the next year you will have two hostas!
