How is spring cleaning in your part of the world? Spring cleaning is in full blast over here…from the inside to the outside. Hubby is always on top of his game when it comes to cleaning the yard – from mowing to weed eating and all that bunch of stuff. And guess what? For the first time ever after five long years, we were able to deep clean our carpet. Yes, after five long years! I must admit that!
Our carpet was newly changed when I got here in the U.S. five years ago. There were plans of deep cleaning it in the past, but we just didn’t get around to doing it. I think we needed some serious pushing and motivation. And then the offer to try out the BISSELL Big Green carpet cleaner rental versus the Rug Doctor rental came. Talk about big time pushing. Imagine having to try two carpet cleaner rentals in one day?! It seems like they knew our carpet totally needed some big-time cleaning, eh? 🙂
We don’t have pets in the house, but having two boys (my husband and son respectively), seeing food particles, dirt and stains on the carpet is expected – something that I consider normal. Not that I am also not guilty of making the carpet dirty, but you know what I mean. More than anything, boys or men could care less if the house is clean or not. Well, in our house anyway. But I am already used to following them around with our vacuum cleaner. 🙂 But as we know, vacuums don’t do the deep cleaning so just imagine the dirt that we got from our carpet after the deep cleaning. Together with the hubs, our day started by heading to our local Lowe’s to rent the BISSELL Big Green rental. It didn’t take us long to rent the BISSELL Big Green – the lady clerk was very nice and helpful and told us everything that we needed to know.
After that, we headed to our local Ingles Market to rent the Rug Doctor rental. It didn’t take us long there either. But, there was no instruction from the clerk on how to use the machine. In both stores, I just had to fill a form and show them my ID. After paying, we were good to go and had both machines good for us to use for 24 hours.
I just love the smell of this formula that we used for the BISSELL Big Green because it is not strong – perfect for my very sensitive nose. The house smelled so good the entire time while we were cleaning, and afterwards.
The hubs filled the BISSELL Big Green tank first with water. Then he added the cleaning formula.
Then we both took turns in cleaning the carpets in the living room and bedrooms.
So we could see the difference between using the BISSELL Big Green compared to the Rug Doctor, we cleaned half of the living room carpet using the BISSELL Big Green and the other half using the Rug Doctor and boy, what a difference!
The Big Green was so easy to operate. All you had to do was push a button to release the cleaner and move the unit back-and-forth, then you let the button go and went over it again to vacuum up the water. And the unit was so easy to move.
The Rug Doctor, however, was another story; it was not user-friendly. It would only move in one direction to do the work – backwards. You had to pull it towards you while running the scrubber then tilt it up to move forward, then pull it back towards you to vacuum up the water, creating extra work time. And seeing that the clerk didn’t explain to us how to use it, we had to read the small instruction printed on the handle.
See the results? YUCK! The Big Green definitely did an outstanding job.
As far as my eyes can see, the dirt on our carpets didn’t seem to look that bad. But after the deep cleaning that we did, I was shocked to see all the dirt inside the BISSELL Big Green tank. I surely didn’t think it was that bad because I do vacuum regularly. Look at that! Gross, right? Needless to say, carpet deep cleaning is a must-do!
I am such a happy camper now that our carpet has been deep cleaned. I love how clean it is, love how it looks and I love how it smells. And we didn’t even have to hire professionals. Can’t beat that!

Isn’t it amazing how much disgusting stuff can be in our carpets without us even realizing it? My water looks like that when I clean my carpet.
I have kids and a husband. That Big Green carpet cleaner could help immensely. I don’t think the water would be brown. I think it would be mud!

I bought a stream cleaner years ago when my older two kids were little. It has come in handy over the years. I love having my own bc I can clean up small or big spills.

I didn’t know about this Big Green from Bissell. I have rented the Rug Doctor in the past to clean my carpets, but I’ll definitely check this out if we ever rent another. – Yolo

with three children, it seems like i can never get the house clean / clean enough. With the summer, they’ll be spending the majority of their time with their sports or at sports camps so I can really dig into the carpets and pretty much everything.
I would love to rent this machine! I have used the Rug Doctor before and was not impressed with the results. I have often wondered about the Big Green and now I see I do not need to wonder anymore-it works! With four young kids and two furbabies, we need something!
Your carpets look great! My mom has been looking for a vacuum cleaner like this one because her whole house is carpeted and getting it professionally cleaned can be expensive. I’ll have to look into this for her, thanks!
