I’ve already talked a little about The Parthenon in my Weekend in Nashville post, and as I mentioned there, there were so many photos and facts to share about this amazing site of architecture that I would share more about it by creating a separate post.
I would have never known that this great landmark could be seen in Nashville until I saw the movie Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief with my son. He is a huge fan of the movie and The Parthenon was featured in this one. So on our trip to Nashville, I made sure to put The Parthenon on our itinerary. And how lucky were we because as you can see in the photos, it was such a gorgeous day. So gorgeous we soaked it up and stayed at the park a little longer after touring The Parthenon.
The Parthenon is located inside Centennial Park and it is the centerpiece of the park. The park has a land area of 132 acres and has this small artificial lake called Lake Watauga.
There was plenty of parking areas all around the park which is all free, but there were so many people visiting the park that day so it took us a little while to find parking. We’ve found one right near where the Steam Engine and F-86L Sabre Jet were located and had to walk about half a mile to The Parthenon. Not bad at all.
As soon as I saw this all I could say was…”WOW!”
The Parthenon in Nashville is a full-scale replica of The Parthenon in Athens, Greece and it also had a re-creation of a 42-foot statue of Athena. The entrance to the building for the visitors was at the ground level at the back. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for children ages 4-17. Water is not allowed inside the museum so I had to leave mine with the cashier and took it back on our way out.
Taking photographs at the art gallery which is located on the first floor is not allowed. But it is allowed on the floor where Athena is.
And there she is…totally amazing! I think I was not, or we were not the only ones who gushed…WOW! and was amazed with our first sight of the 40-foot statue. She is covered in gold and was glistening and shining brightly in that room.
The size of this statue alone is fascinating, more so the art and creativity that was put into it. Look at all the details.
These statues were located in a room adjacent to where Athena was.
Visiting The Parthenon was really wonderful and such an amazing experience. I feel so blessed to be able to see magnificent landmarks such as this with my husband and son and learn more about history.
