A blue moon speaks not of the color, or any sadness-as in feeling blue-but the rarity of its occurence. A blue moon is when there are two full moons in the same calender month, which is a not-common happening. It happens roughly every two and a half years, and only four or five times in a hundred year period will there be two blue moons within the same year, truly being a rare thing. The etymologyof the term is unclear but the expression blue moon dates back to the era of Shakespeare. As for the meaning, it’s basically a way of saying “not very often.”
And a not-very-often event is what I was blessed to see on New Year’s Eve. Not only was it a blue moon, but it was the first one on New Year’s Eve since 1990, and the next one to happen on a December 31st will not be until 2028, truly giving the meaning “not very often” great credence.
But not only did this blue moon bring in a new year and decade, it was also a poetic and symbolic ending to what has been the happiest of all and any years in my life. Not a once in a blue moon year, but a once in a lifetime kind of year. And I owe that to the very special lady and Anghel who has graced my life with her love and with whom I have many more “New Year’s” and blue moons to share. Thank you, M’Lady, for the gifts you have bestowed upon me.
I wish all a very happy and prosperous new beginning, and very special wishes for my Anghel in what will not only be a new year, but a new beginning for the both of us in what will truly be our once in a blue moon, in a lifetime, year.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
