These roadside wildflowers never fail to delight me and I always look forward to seeing what they are going to plant next. This beautification is part of the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) Roadside Wildflower Program. It began in 1985 and is maintained across the state.
If you’re a constant follower here on the blog, I have shared about these roadside wildflowers in the past like these purple beauties, these red poppies which was planted to pay tribute to the fallen soldiers of World War I, and these sunflowers plus white and orange zinnias.
Currently, these pink zinnias are the ones blooming and they have been there since late summer.
If you look at the other side of the highway, those were the sunflowers, but they were already done blooming for the season. The husband and I stopped on that side of the highway one time on our way home from grocery shopping and I shared that photo of the sunflowers that Hubby took on Instagram. And while we were there, there was a couple who was driving a car with a New Jersey tag who stopped and took photos of the sunflowers too.
I believe a lot of people are delighted to see these beauties on the highways. My husband couldn’t care less about them and that’s because he doesn’t care about flowers. For him, they are all weeds. LOL. But he is always good to go and doesn’t complain about driving me to go to those flower beds to take pictures. I can drive myself there, but it’s always nice to have him around – my way of introducing him to the beauty of nature that nobody else ever introduced him to, unfortunately.
This is the first time that I’ve seen these pink zinnias. They planted orange and white zinnias in the past.
They are just beautiful, aren’t they?
Are there roadside wildflowers in your area too?
Have a great Monday!

What beautiful flowers! I love wild flowers, and sometimes the roadsides have the best ones. My mother used to stop and pick them! 🙂

These are so gorgeous! I admire roadside flowers too, but I’m always afraid to stop because people drive like maniacs.

What an absolutely wonderful thing they are doing here! How beautiful and such a blessing to drive by! We are lucky to have a lot of wildflowers and sunflowers that grow naturally in our area but I would love to see more!

These roadside displays always look great when you share them on your blog. I always enjoy seeing your posts on this topic pop up. It is nice they are using wildflowers instead of trying to do a more architectural designed landscaping approach along the roads.

The flowers are beautiful. They have done a similar project in Texas but I haven’t had the chance to stop and photograph them. I love the pretty purple flowers.

I think they are beautiful – and love that they were planted in remembrance of fallen soldiers. What a great way to memorialize their memories and beautify roadsides.

These are such beauties.. I live in a city so we don’t have this awesomeness and since I live in the South, our road sides are usually lined with cotton and other crops… that I notice when on a road trip. – yolonda

Waw they are so beautiful! That bright color makes me so happy. In Istanbul they are making all kinds of models and writings with flowers near the highway. It looks so pretty!
