Yes, it’s back! If I’m not mistaken, this is their 4th year of yarn bombing Wall Street in Asheville. And this is the second time that I’ve seen it. I have blogged about this urban knitting that they did at the same area last year and there were some new designs so here I am again sharing what I saw from mine and my husband’s trip to downtown Asheville last week.
WHAT IS YARN BOMBING
Yarn bombing is a type of street art or graffiti. It is also known as yarn storming, guerilla knitting, kniffiti, urban knitting or graffiti knitting. It uses yarn that is crocheted or knitted to create colorful street art displays.
The yarn bomb display on this street light pole with that cute little critter is new this year. Not unless, I missed it last year.
The yarn bombed giant flat iron is located right in front of the Flatiron Building.
They had the same design crocheted on the giant flat iron on this side.
But the sole of the flat iron had a different design from last year. It would be nice to see them actually putting up the crocheted yarn on this giant iron.
Just like last year, all the parking meters on Wall Street were yarn bombed.
HISTORY OF YARN BOMBING
As per Wikipedia, yarn bombing originated here in the United States. And the start of this movement has been accredited to Magda Sayeg from Houston.
There’s our own Wall Street here in our beautiful little city of Asheville getting all dolled up by those creative artists with their amazing and creative yarn bombing. Last year, the yarn bombing stayed up through the winter holiday parade. I’m not sure if it will be the same this year.
I may not be an artist, but I have always adored art in any form and have always been delighted by creativity shown by artists. Their talents are always an amazement and inspiration.
There are other cities in the United States who also display yarn bombing. Do you have this in your area?

I just love yarn-bombing! I think it looks so pretty and adds so much colour and texture. When I went to visit my daughter in Watford, England their town square was filled with yarn-bombed trees and it was gorgeous!
