Oven-roasted crispy pork belly, or better known as Lechon Kawali in my home country, is one of the most popular Filipino dishes that we have. This is the #1 Filipino dish that my husband really enjoys. He had it when we visited a Filipino restaurant near Charlotte, North Carolina before and this was the dish that he ordered many times whenever we went out to dinner on our recent summer vacation to my hometown .
Lechon Kawali is usually cooked deep fried. After hubby’s health scare, I’m trying to prepare food as healthy as I can. So instead of deep frying the pork belly meat, I decided to roast it in the oven.
This was the first time ever since I got here in the U.S. that I was able to prepare this dish though. And that’s because the Asian store that we frequented before didn’t sell pork belly. But recently, we discovered this new Asian market in town which sells pork belly…much to my delight!
I cooked it for 25 minutes and it kind of got burned on the sides. But it was fine and still tasted delicious. You can adjust the time between 23 – 25 if you choose not to have the sides a little burned like that. And just a heads up, you may hear popping sounds at the beginning while it’s cooking, but don’t worry about it. It’s part of the process.

Isn’t the recipe to quick and easy to prepare? I just prepared the oven-roasted crispy pork belly last week and my son is asking for it again. So we’re headed back to the Asian market again this weekend to get more pork belly.
Do you have an Asian store near you? If you have, give this recipe a try. I think you will love it like my husband does. But if you don’t have an Asian store, I think you can find pork belly at the butcher nearest you. Not so sure about it though since I haven’t checked that out yet.
Enjoy your Friday and have a great weekend y’all!

I’ve had pork belly a few times. It’s a very savory kind of meat and you most certaily can find pork belly in most grocery stores. If you can’t you do a rain check with the butcher and he’ll cut some just for you.
